The invention relates to a cosmetic composition that promotes oxygen transport into the skin and comprises vesicles as carriers for transporting oxygen. In order to create a cosmetic composition that promotes transport of molecular oxygen into the skin, i.e. through the stratum corneum of the skin and the epidermis into the adjacent tissue, so as to increase the oxygen concentration in the tissue and activate metabolic processes, said composition contains 1 to 50 percent by weight of membrane-forming sphingolipids and/or galactolipids and 5 to 50 percent by weight of oxygen-laden fluorocarbon or fluorocarbon mixture.
