The network (1) has a diagnostic device (D) i.e. active subscriber, utilized for error analysis and/or monitoring frequency-modulated signals in the network. The diagnostic device is provided at a position of the network for detecting the frequency-modulated signals and converting the frequency-modulated signals into digital field bus communication network data. The diagnostic device comprises an information display (4) and sends a data telegram by the network, where the data telegram is detected and evaluated at an evaluation position. An independent claim is also included for a method for modulating a frequency-modulated underground data transmission network.
