The device (1) has an air duct (3) arranged in an air flow (2) and producing an acoustic signal caused by the air flow. The air duct is designed as a vent hole. A microphone (4) detects and/or processes the acoustic signal. The microphone converts the acoustic signal into an electrical signal, which is supplied to an electronics (5) e.g. microprocessor. A battery (6) produces required energy for the electronics from the air flow. The device is arranged in the airflow between a filter medium i.e. filter mat, and a ventilator. An opening (11) of the vent hole is arranged in a flow direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a device for detecting clogging of filter or filter system.
