<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of quickly processing a job without requiring troublesome work from a user when an instruction for switching to a normal mode is given during job execution in a silent mode. <P>SOLUTION: It is determined whether or not an instruction to exit the silent mode has been given (step S2). If it is determined that an instruction to exit the silent mode has been given, whether or not a job is being executed is determined (step S4). If it is determined that a job is being executed, remaining time is determined from the remaining number of sheets for the job (step S6). Next, a comparison determination process on a set value and the remaining time is executed (step S8). When the set value≥the remaining time, the job is continued. When the set value<the remaining time, the job is interrupted (step S10). Transition is made to a normal mode.
