A modular air movement apparatus comprises a base module 1 having a centrifugal fan 7, an air inlet and a plurality of air outlets 11 each having a substantially identical peripheral profile. One or more of the outlets have a damper unit 3 connected and interposed between an inlet of an exhaust throat (duct) 2. A blanking plate 4 having a profile matching the profile of the outlets can be secured to at least one of the other outlets so as to close that air outlet(s). The base unit may be box shaped having four sides each having a rectangular outlet. A damper / butterfly valve 14 that opens and closes in response to an external signal may be located in the damper unit. The signal may be indicative of air quality such as smoke from a fire. The exhaust throat may have a reduced cross section in the form of a horizontal rectangular slit 13 to increase flow velocity. Multiple exhaust throats may be secured in-line and opposite each other (figs 3A, 3B), perpendicular to each other (Figs 4a, 4B). The apparatus may be wall or ceiling mounted and used in multi-storey car park or underground car parks. |
