<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device and a method of the control thereof by which the meandering of a recording medium during conveyance is prevented and recording is performed in a right position of the recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: A printer is provided with: a platen for long continuous paper to be supported; a record processing unit for performing a recording step on the continuous paper; a medium conveyance system including a first drive roller intermittently conveying the continuous paper, a first drive motor connected to the first drive roller, a second drive roller discharging the continuous paper from the platen and a second drive motor connected to the second drive roller; a detection system including a correcting unit correcting the shape of an end of the continuous paper conveyed to the platen whose end intersects with the conveyance direction of the continuous paper, and a detecting unit detecting the position of the end corrected by the correcting unit; and a conveyance position control system controlling the conveyance position of the continuous paper in a direction intersecting with the conveyance direction.
