<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a constantly comfortable ride condition by accurately correcting a load signal of an elevator to output accurate balance torque. <P>SOLUTION: A movable load value is adjusted based on a movable load value detected by a load detecting unit and a predetermined load offset value, and balance torque is computed by averaging a torque command value when an elevator car is located in an intermediate position between the uppermost floor and the lowest floor in a hoistway during the steady travel of ascending operation in one reciprocating operation of the elevator car in the case of the elevator car standing by for a predetermined time or longer in a no-call state, and a torque command value when the elevator car is located in the intermediate position during the steady travel of descending operation in one reciprocating operation of the elevator car. An ideal value of the movable load value is computed based on the computed result and a predetermined torque conversion gain value, and a correction value of the movable load value is computed based on the difference between the adjusted result of the movable load value and the ideal value of the movable load value.
