ORGANIC ANTIOXIDANT BASED FILTRATION APPARATUS AND METHOD

A filter apparatus comprising activated carbon, a support body preferably made of ceramic, glass or glass - ceramic, and an organic antioxidant disposed on or incorporated within the support body. The antioxidant is preferably ascorbic acid and/or glutathione. A preferred embodiment of the filter apparatus concerns a layer of activated carbon which is sandwiched between the support body and a layer of organic antioxidant. The filter apparatus is used for the removal of metals from gases, especially for the removal of mercury.
