Provided is a planetary gear mechanism having: a carrier; planetary gears; planetary pins that are inserted into insertion holes provided in the planetary gears and that are connected to the carrier to support the planetary gears so as to rotate freely; a thrust collar that is attached to the face of the carrier that opposes the planetary gears so as to encircle the planetary pins; and a pin that connects the thrust collar to the carrier. The thrust collar has a first face that opposes the carrier and a second face that opposes the planetary gears, and a first pin hole that is provided in the first face but does not extend to the second face. A second pin hole is provided in the face of the carrier that opposes the planetary gears. The thrust collar is attached to the carrier by inserting the pin into the first pin hole in the thrust collar and the second pin hole in the carrier.
