The method involves partially surrounding an electrochemical energy storage cell (3) by a sealing compound (1). A contact element (5) is formed from an electrically conductive material and attached to a current collector (4) of the electrochemical energy storage cell to form an energy storage unit (10). The energy storage unit is immersed into a vessel (2) filled with the sealing compound such that the sealing compound is partially hardened. The vessel is disconnected when the sealing compound is partially hardened.
