The invention also relates to methods for diagnosing a pulmonary infection in a subject or determining the effectiveness of a treatment of a pulmonary infection by measuring CXCR6 or CXCL16. The invention also relates to using CXCL16 as an adjuvant to increase the mononuclear cell response to an antigen.
