PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent breakage of a sealed part and an electrode of a high-pressure discharge lamp.

SOLUTION: A discharge lamp electrode 100 comprises a rod-like part 101 whose one end is sealed in an sealed part of the luminous tube of a discharge lamp and whose other end is disposed in an discharge space of the luminous tube. If the maximum height of a line roughness at an end face on the one end side of the rod-like part 101 is represented as Ry1 and the maximum height of a line roughness in a circular direction of the rod-like part 101 at one third of the length in a longer direction of the rod-like part 101 from the end face of the one end side to the other end side is represented as Ry2, then Ry1 is 40 [μm] or less and Ry2 is within a range of 10 [μm] to 40 [μm], both ends inclusive.
