DRIVE CIRCUIT OF ELECTRO-ABSORPTION OPTICAL MODULATION ELEMENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive circuit capable of driving an electro-absorption optical modulation element at high speed.

SOLUTION: A drive circuit 10 driving an electro-absorption optical modulation element 32 via a transmission line 40 having prescribed characteristic impedance includes: an output driver circuit 12; an offset setting circuit 14; and a series circuit 16. The output driver circuit 12 is connected to the transmission line 40 in terms of direct current and AC-drives the optical modulation element 32. The offset setting circuit 14 applies an offset voltage to the optical modulation element 32. The series circuit 16 includes a resistance 16a and an inductor 16b and connects the offset setting circuit 14 to the transmission line 40. The series circuit 16 is provided with the inductor 16b to make a frequency characteristic of output impedance of the drive circuit 10 have a peak and to improve a high-frequency characteristic of a drive waveform of the optical modulation element 32.
