An object is to provide a communication adapter apparatus that allows main equipment to be easily connected to a plurality of communication networks based on different communication protocols.
The communication adapter apparatus 100 according to the present invention is a communication adapter apparatus connecting main equipment 200 to a communication network, which includes a main equipment interface section 7 connecting to the main equipment 200, a memory 3 that stores a plurality of communication protocol stacks 11 corresponding to various communication networks, a microcomputer 2, an Ethernet (registered trademark) communication connecting connector 6 that is connected to the communication network, and a communication control circuit 5 for controlling transmission and reception of communication data, in which the microcomputer 2 includes a protocol selecting section 10 for selecting any one from among the plurality of communication protocol stacks 11 and a protocol abstraction section 9 for performing data conversion for the data that the main equipment 200 transmits to and receives from a communication network in accordance with a protocol stack selected by the protocol selecting section 10.
