An ambi-lighting processing apparatus using an input image histogram is provided to obtain optimized ambi-lighting effect for each video frame by using a histogram for each video frame. An ambi-lighting processing apparatus includes a histogram extractor(20), an ambi-lighting processor, a data storage unit, and an image output unit. The histogram extractor extracts a histogram of an input signal. The ambi-lighting processor controls brightness and/or colors according to the extracted histogram. The data storage unit provides data required to control brightness and/or colors to the ambi-lighting processor. The image output unit reflects ambi-lighting effect of the brightness and/or colors controlled by the ambi-light processor in an image and outputs the image.
