The pump has a pumping chamber (1) and a regulating chamber (2) that are separated from each other by a piston (3). Fluid flowing from the pumping chamber toward the regulating chamber is drained through a channel (4) and a fluid-guiding section. The fluid-guiding section leads into the channel and to a suction side, so that the fluid is guided on the suction side of the pump. The channel is placed in a region in which the piston forms a sealing gap (8) with a piston guide that surrounds the piston. The sealing gap extends from the channel toward the pumping and regulating chambers.
