The method involves inserting bearing support elements (16) into two end regions (14) of a roller base body (10). The support elements are connected to the roller base body by bonding. The damaged bearing support elements are machined i.e. milled, on an inner surface (24). A sleeve (32) is inserted into the bearing support elements. An inner surface (36) of the sleeve is used for receiving outer bearing rings (26) of a roller bearing (28) for supporting a roller. The roller base body is made of plastic or a plastic compound material. An independent claim is also included for a roller comprising a roller base body.
