349,647. Lubricating axle bearings. MATTHEWS, E. F., Elm Cottage, Watford Road, Wembley, Middlesex. March 3, 1930, No. 7013. [Class 12 (iii).] A lubricating ring 1 for an axle-box rests on the front collar 7 of the brass 8 and is maintained in that eccentric position by the action of its own weight or of a lug 28 projecting from the top of the box while being rotated positively from the axle 4 by means arranged on the front face of the latter. Pins 19, 20 projecting from a disc 11 connected to the ring 1 by spokes 10 tapering in the direction of rotation engage radial slots 21, 22 in a disc 12, and studs 13, 14 mounted in the end of the axle engage slots 17, 18 in the disc 12 and circular apertures 23, 24 in the disc 11, the slots 17, 18 being at rightangles to the slots 21, 22 and the diameter of the apertures 23, 24 being equal to the length of the slots 17, 18. A rib 29 on the collar 7 scrapes oil from the inside of the ring into recesses 30, 31, whence it flows to lubricating grooves 3, and at high speeds the lug 28 scrapes oil from the outside of the ring.
|
