Provided is an illumination device in which a substrate cover can be attached easily. The disclosed illumination device includes: a cold-cathode tube (17); a chassis (14) in which the cold-cathode tube (17) is housed; a control substrate (40) that is attached to the chassis (14); and a substrate cover (60) that is attached to the chassis (14) and that is arranged so as to cover the control substrate (40). The illumination device is characterized in that: projections (52) that project toward the substrate cover (60) are provided on the chassis (14) in areas where the substrate cover (60) is attached thereto; and the substrate cover (60) has cover-side insertion holes (63) through which the respective projections (52) are inserted.
