[Class 65 (ii).] In oscillating joints comprising inner and outer members with resilient rubber cushion interposed and vulcanized to the inner member, the rubber is of greater diameter than the interior of the outer member whereby the rubber is distorted longitudinally between the said members and frictionally engages areas on the inner member on both sides of the vulcanized area. Fig. 4 shows the device comprising an inner sleeve or bolt 11 to which is secured an annular sleeve 12 of rubber, the inner portion by vulcanization and the outer portion by friction, the sleeve 12 being surmounted by a sleeve 10 with which the rubber is only frictionally engaged. Relative rotation of the sleeves 10, 11 is thereby permitted to a limited extent. Fig. 6 shows a resilient shackle for a spring, the side members 24 each being integral with a bolt 11a having a sleeve of rubber vulcanized thereto and surrounded by a metal sleeve. Fig. 1 shows a method of assembly, a collar 12a of rubber vulcanized to a sleeve 11 is mounted in relation to the outer sleeve 10 in a press, a funnel 23 of the shape shown being positioned on the sleeve 10. The inner sleeve with rubber collar is forced into the outer sleeve 10 by a ram 17 the rubber collar being compressed radially and expanding longitudinally. The device is applicable to the steering mechanism of vehicles. |
