<p>A medical implant is described comprising a cup prosthesis (10) having a circumference, a central axis which defines an axial direction and a radial direction, and a rim (64) at a first axial position. An attachment member (8) is applied around the circumference of the cup, and comprises circumferential band (46) having an upper face (52) at an axial position below the first axial position and at least two tabs (50) extending substantially in an axial direction from the upper face of the circumferential band. The material of the tab comprises a region of weakness (60) adjoining the upper face of the circumferential band. A surgical instrument head (102) for attachment to a cup prosthesis, comprises at least one plastically deformable locating member (34,132) extending from the instrument head substantially in an axial direction. The radial dimension of the locating member is tapered about the central axis such that the outer radial dimension of the at least one locating member narrows in the direction away from the instrument head. An assembly of the cup and instrument head is also described.</p> |
