A secondary battery using an electrode active material having an olivine type crystal structure is provided to prevent degradation of the electrode active material caused by an acid including HF, thereby realizing improved lifespan and high-temperature storage characteristics. A secondary battery comprises: (a) a cathode; (b) an anode; (c) a separator; and (d) an electrolyte containing an electrolyte salt and an organic solvent, wherein either or both of the cathode and the anode comprise an electrode active material having an olivine type crystal structure, and the electrolyte further comprises (e) a compound that chemically reacts with an acid(H+) to produce a chemical reaction product other than water. |
