<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure that scanned data is actually retrieved from a data storage device and not falsely provided by some piece of malware. <P>SOLUTION: A computing device 102 comprises: an in-band processor 110; a communication circuitry 116 configured to exchange information with a remote server 104; and an out-of-band processor 124 capable of exchanging information with the remote server 104 using the communication circuitry 116 irrespective of the state of an operating system. The out-of-band processor 124 receives a block read request from the remote server 104; instructs at least one host driver to send a storage command to a data storage device 120; receives data retrieved from the data storage device 120 and authentication metadata generated by the data storage device 120; and transmits the data and the authentication metadata to the remote server 104. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
