The structure (100) has a consequence active layer (120) located on a contact layer (110). Another contact layer (130) is partly arranged on the active layer. Isolating trenches (140) are extended from each other by the active layer and separate regions (150) of the active layer and define the former contact layer. The trenches are filled with material e.g. germanium, extended on a top surface (122) of the active layer such that planar portions (132) of the latter contact layer are arranged by the trenches and adjacent regions of the active layer form a surface area. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing an optical receiver structure.
