PURPOSE: A method for estimating the position of a synchronous motor and a motor driving unit using the same are provided to estimate the position of a rotor using an output value of a controller which is included in a voltage command generating unit. CONSTITUTION: An output current detecting unit detects an output current which flows between an inverter and a three-phase synchronous motor(150). The output current detecting unit detects all output currents of each phase. An axis converting unit(210) converts a three-phase output current detected by the output current detecting unit into a two-phase current of a rest frame. A voltage command generating unit generates a voltage command value using the converted current and a current command value. A location estimating unit(220) comprises a multiplier, a PI controller, and an integrator.
