PURPOSE:To improve dehydratability of the sludge formed in the stage of treating a pickling waste liquid by adding a high-polymer flocculating agent to a neutralizing agent and neutralizing said liquid by such agent. CONSTITUTION:The high-polymer flocculating agent such as polyacryl amide is added to the neutralizing agent then the neutralizing ageng is quickly mixed and stirred and the mixing and dispersion on the neutralizing agent are ended before precipitation of the hydroxide of iron in the stage of adding the neutralizing agent contg. slaked lime to the waste pickling liquid produced from pickling of a steel material to neutralize said waste liquid. Then the formation of the sludge having good dehydratability is made possible even if the fine slaked lime is contained in the neutralizing agent.
