The invention relates to a novel method for producing methane gas in situ, wherein: at least one natural kerogen-rich layer is selected from the superficial geological subsoil down to a depth of 1,500 m, the growth and activity of the indigenous microorganisms naturally contained in said kerogens are stimulated in order to increase methane production, and the methane produced is extracted. The method can include a step comprising the injection of fluids in order to increase the production of methane in the kerogens, said fluids comprising at least water, nutrients for the syntroph and methanogenic microorganisms, and at least one additive. Reference is also made to the nutrient composition forming part of said fluids, as well as compositions of trace elements, vitamin solution and inhibitors of indigenous microbiological populations, each of which forms part of said nutrient composition. The methane production method can include a preliminary prospecting phase for selecting at least one layer having a high gas potential at a given geological site. |
