<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery which has its positive and negative electrode plates and the connecting tabs on its positive and negative terminal sides firmly connected by needle caulking so that when an external force acts upon a turnback portion of caulking, no clearance is formed on the boundary of the turnback portion and an increase in contact resistance is thereby suppressed and a method for manufacturing the same, and to provide a method for joining metal sheets. <P>SOLUTION: The electrode body of a battery 1 comprises a negative electrode plate 11 and a positive electrode plate which are wound around it in oval form as viewed from the side via a separator 12. The battery 1 is provided with an insulator 6 on the reverse side of its cover, and a current collector having a connecting tab 7a hangingly disposed therein is accommodated in a recess of the insulator 6. The connecting tab 7a includes caulking sections 18 at its front which are formed by needle-caulking with a negative electrode plate connecting part 14 while being superposed thereon, which is protrusively disposed in the negative electrode plate 11.
