<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique related to a friction material that allows further reduction in brake squeal as compared with the conventional one and is excellent in the performance of brake response. <P>SOLUTION: The friction material includes a fibrous base material, a binding material and a filler. The filler contains an organic filler in an amount of 1-20 vol.% based on the friction material.
