A decontamination system 1 includes a treatment enclosure 2, a plurality of air flow conduits 5, 12, 13, a water injection system, and an air heater and pump 4. The pump is used to pump the air heated by the heater through the flow conduits into the various parts of the treatment enclosure and to recover the heated air from the treatment enclosure to be recycled. At least one targeted conduit 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 can be adjustably positioned in the enclosure to create a local flow within a region of the enclosure. Water or water vapour is injected into the heated air by the injection system to control the humidity of the air. The system and decontamination method claimed is particularly adapted for the biological decontamination of imported machinery and motor vehicles 3 and may be containerised or self-contained.
