Disclosed is a means for assessing regional oxygen uptake or perfusion in a patient, comprising: i. means for determining a volume of air inhaled by the patient; ii. means for measuring according to a method of electrical impedance tomography a first regional lung volume at a first time point of a breathold procedure; and iii. means for comparing the first regional lung volume to a second regional lung volume at a second time point of the breathold procedure.
