The invention concerns methods for breeding soybean plants containing genomic regions associated with increased α′-subunit of &bgr;-conglycinin content in seed. Moreover, the invention provides germplasm and the use of germplasm containing genomic regions conferring increased α′-subunit of &bgr;-conglycinin content for introgression into elite germplasm in a breeding program. The invention also provides derivatives, and plant parts of these plants and uses thereof.
