PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the durability of a photoreceptor drum, in an image forming apparatus and a charging method which electrically charge a photoreceptor by proximity discharge.SOLUTION: An eraser 10 discharges the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 to make the potential of the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor 4 as residual potential Vr. The charging device 5 charges the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 by the proximity discharge to make the potential of the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 as potential V0. The charging device 5 charges the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 a plurality of times when changing the potential of the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 from the residual potential Vr to the potential V0. A change amount in the potential of the peripheral surface of the photoreceptor drum 4 in each charge is substantially the same. |
