Provided that when Y1 is NR1, R and R1 may also form a ring comprising pyrrolidine, pyrroline, piperidine, piperazine, morpholine, thiomorpholine, or azepine. Independent claims are included for: (1) cosmetic composition comprising (I) in a medium; and (2) the dithiolane compound (I) (where R is R2a). R2a : (i) optionally saturated 21-300C hydrocarbon group (optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms of O, NR1a or S), (ii) saturated 9-30C alkyl hydrocarbon substituted by phenyl itself optionally substituted by one or more OH and/or 1-8C alkoxy, where (i) and (ii) are further substituted by one or more substituents of OR2, SR2, NR2R3, or COOR2, or (iii) optionally saturated 8-20C hydrocarbon group, optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms of O, NR1a or S; Y1 : O, NR1 or S, preferably O, NH or N(CH 3); R1 : H, optionally saturated 1-32C hydrocarbon (optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms of O, NR1a or S) or phenyl optionally substituted by one or more OH and/or 1-6C alkoxy; and R1a : H or 1-6C alkyl. Provided that: when R2a is (i) or (ii), then Y1 is O, NR1 or S, preferably O, NH or N(CH 3), R1 is H, optionally saturated 1-32C hydrocarbon (optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms of O, NR1a or S) or phenyl optionally substituted by one or more OH and/or 1-6C alkoxy, and R1a is H or 1-6C alkyl; or when R2a is optionally saturated 8-20C hydrocarbon group, optionally comprising one or more heteroatoms of O, NR1a or S, then R1a is H or 1-6C alkyl, Y1 is NR1 and R1 is optionally saturated 21-32C hydrocarbon group optionally comprising one or more heteroatom of O, NR1a or S or R1 is optionally saturated 8-20C hydrocarbon group optionally comprising one or more heteroatom of O, NR1a or S, and R1a is H or 1-6C alkyl (when R1 is R2a).
