<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting system which has both lighting function and fire monitoring function and can be installed in a central part of a room, capable of monitoring a large area of the room. <P>SOLUTION: The lighting system is provided with an illumination part 12 which emits visible light of a predetermined wavelength band using, for example, LED elements or EL elements, and a detection part 11 consisting of, for example, an ultraviolet-ray sensor which receives light with different wavelength band emanated when fire breaks out from the predetermined wavelength band.
