PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the cycle performance of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using an iron phosphate compound as a negative electrode active material. SOLUTION: The cycle performance of the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using an iron phosphate compound as a negative electrode active material is improved by using FePO<SB>4</SB>xH<SB>2</SB>O(0<x) as a negative electrode active material.
