PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device capable of obtaining a high response speed by a relatively simple constitution. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device 10 includes at least: a first liquid crystal panel 11 and a second liquid crystal panel 12 which are piled up so that their retarded-phase axes may be roughly orthogonal to each other for reducing a phase difference by voltage application; a pair of polarizing plates 13, 14 for holding the first liquid crystal panel 11 and the second liquid crystal panel 12 therebetween; and a control part 16 capable of independently controlling voltages applied to the first liquid crystal panel 11 and the second liquid crystal panel 12.
