PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine, which recovers from fuel cut control of a misfired cylinder performed to prevent catalytic OT (Over Temperature), without causing discomfort to the driver. SOLUTION: An electronic control unit 6 cuts fuel to a misfired cylinder on condition that a misfire is in a catalytic OT warning area where overheating of a catalyst 5 could occur. The electronic control unit 6 conducts, while fuel is cut to all cylinders, recovery from the cutting of fuel to the misfired cylinder when out of the catalytic OT warning area, thereby preventing torque from being increased even when the misfired cylinder is recovered from the fuel cut.
