The stack has an outer structure coherent in a stacking direction of bipolar plates (8) and separated from the bipolar plates. Edges (8a, 8b) of the bipolar plates rest against the structure. Supply of fuel i.e. hydrogen, and oxidant in flow paths of the bipolar plates and removal of reaction products from the flow paths take place over the edges of the bipolar plates via the structure. A medium gasket (5) and/or an insulating composite layer (4) surrounds a circumference of the bipolar plates. The structure comprises hollow profile elements (A, B) in the form of extruded profiles. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a fuel cell stack for producing power from reaction of fuel with oxidant to reaction product. |
