PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a parallax estimation apparatus for preventing the accuracy of parallax estimation from being reduced. SOLUTION: The parallax estimation apparatus 1 includes: a data item generation means 11 for generating a data item using an error function obtained by applying a cosine inverse function to similarity calculated by normalized cross correlation, and multiplying the similarity by a first weighting coefficient; a smooth item generation means 12; a message transmission means 13 for transmitting a message between blocks; a parallax candidate determination means 14; a data item generation means 21 for generating a data item using an error function obtained by applying a cosine inverse function to the similarity calculated by normalized cross correlation, and multiplying the similarity by a second weighting coefficient larger than the first weighting coefficient; a smooth item generation means 22; a message transmission means 23 for transmitting a message between pixels; and a parallax determination means 24 for determining parallax as parallax information, the parallax having minimum energy in a low layer updated by the message transmission means 23 and being included in the parallax candidates input from the parallax candidate determination means 14.
