摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reliable method for sealing a liquid crystal by selectively removing a water-repelling layer as a decorative layer by a simple means, only in a region corresponding to an injection port of the liquid crystal. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device, which includes a liquid crystal layer held between a pair of opposing substrates and includes an inorganic alignment layer coupled with an organic alignment layer on a surface close to the liquid crystal layer of at least one substrate, includes a step of removing the organic alignment layer by irradiating a removal region of the organic alignment layer of the substrate with energy rays. A mask is disposed opposing to the substrate surface, the mask having an opening corresponding to the removal region and having a thickness of 5 times or more the opening length in a direction perpendicular to the boundary line of the opening with a display unit of the liquid crystal display device; and the substrate is irradiated with energy rays through the mask.
