<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing 2-amino-4-trifluoromethylpyridines. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a compound represented by formula (I) (wherein X<SP>1</SP>indicates a chlorine atom or a bromine atom) or a salt thereof by reacting a compound represented by formula (II) (wherein X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>indicate each a chlorine atom or a bromine atom) and ammonia in the presence of a hydrophilic ether.
