The method involves detecting values of temperature in temperature sensors, where a difference of the values is formed. The difference between the values is compared with stored pair, and a signal value is determined from the comparison result to control a pump and/or an instantaneous water heater. The signal value is output (SA) as a control signal to the pump and/or the instantaneous water heater. One of the values of the temperature is compared with a threshold value before detection of the other value, and the heater is cooled when exceeding the threshold value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for controlling a hot drink preparation device (2) a hot drink preparation device for household purposes, comprising an instantaneous water heater.
