The device (20) has a controller (26) with a first control logic to generate an image representing a portion of a viewable output of software application on a display (22) e.g. LCD. The output has an inner region partially surrounded by an outer region. A second logic adjusts a field of view (FOV) of the image based on movement of the device detected by a motion sensor (24). The controller has third and fourth logics that display another image of a cursor in the inner and outer regions when portions of each region are within the FOV of the former image, respectively. The motion sensor is an accelerometer, an infrared sensor or an optical sensor. An independent claim is also included for a method for displaying a software application on a hand-held electronic device.
