A method for configuration of a femto radio base station is characterized in the steps of establishing a connection of the femto radio base station (1) to a configuration server (3) via the internet, positioning a mobile terminal (6) within the transmission range of the femto radio base station (1) and contacting the configuration server (1) over an existing macro base station (7), the mobile terminal (6) performing various measurements to identify the radio environment at the site of the femto radio base station (1), passively detecting the traffic between the mobile terminal (6) and the macro base station (7) by element of the uplink radio interface of the femto radio base station (1), and the configuration server (3) using the results from the measurements to determine a radio configuration for the femto radio base station (1).
