The device has an exhaust gas system (1) having exhaust pipe (2.1), in which an exhaust after treatment device (4) and a heat recovery device (5) are arranged. A bypass line (2.2) surrounds the exhaust after treatment device and the heat recovery device. An armature (V1) is arranged in the exhaust pipe in flow direction of the exhaust gas flow before the exhaust after treatment device. An independent claim is also included for a method for distribution of exhaust gas flow of an internal combustion engine.
