PURPOSE: A backlight unit and display device is provided to reduce the thickness and improve a picture quality of a display image. CONSTITUTION: A backlight unit includes as follows. A first layer. A plurality of light sources arranged on the first layer. A second layer is located on the first layer arranged on the plurality of light sources. A plurality of light sources includes as follows. A first light source(220) emits the light to a work direction. A second light source emits light to the same direction with the first light source and is arranged on a horizontal lien which is same with the first light source that is neighborly arranged with first light source. A third light source(222) emits light to the direction opposite to the first light source and is arranged on diagonal line with the first light source and is arranged between the first light source and the second light source. A first distance is the distance between a light emitting surface of the first light source and a light emitting surface of the second light source. A second distance is the distance between the center of a light emitting surface of the first light source and the center of a light emitting surface of the third light source. The first distance is smaller or the same as the second distance.
