Rotary actuator comprising a first rotatable part that has a profiled control surface having a wavy or serrated shape, and a stationary second part that has at least one locking element running on the control surface. The locking element (10) can be moved against a restoring force within a recess (8) and is accommodated with play between the side walls (12, 13) delimiting the recess (8) that tapers in a V-shaped manner in the direction of the first part. The locking element (8) cooperates with the radially oriented control surface (5) in such a way as to move against one of the side walls (12, 13) when running into an elevation of the control surface (5) as a result of a movement of the first part (2), and the locking element (8) hits the other side wall (13, 12) under the effect of the restoring force when passing over the elevation.
