A rip fence mechanism 10 has a fence plate 34 pivotally connected between first and second parallel rails 30, (32, figure 3) to be pivotable between vertical P3 and horizontal P4 postures and a support plate 35 pivotally connected to the fence plate between first P1 and second positions (P2, figures 5-8) which are respectively abutting (parallel to) the fence plate and vertical (orthogonal) to the fence plate. The fence can be slidably connected with a worktable 14 of a table saw 12 to support a large workpiece when extended (figure 2). First and second pivot devices (38, 42, figure 3) may connect the fence plate to the rails, a curved guide slot 608 receiving a pivot shaft. Cams (684, 704, figure 4) may provide for fine adjustment of the fence plate. The fence plate may have an elongate, hollow, aluminium-extruded body having a positioning groove (502, figure 4) along the length shaped to receive and guide a pivot connection 354 of the support plate (figure 7) under bias of a torsion spring. |
