PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble phthalocyanine which has such low molecule association and good optochemical characteristics as not inhibiting the purposes of use also in uses except pigments. SOLUTION: The water-soluble phthalocyanine is produced by a method in which the hydrogen atoms of the outside benzene rings of the phthalocyanine are replaced by phenoxy groups, and the phenoxy groups are sulfonated.
